PUBLIC NOTICE OF CLOSED SESSION MEETING
The Commissioners of Ridgely will meet on Friday April 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM, in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at the Ridgely Town Hall, 2 Central Avenue, Ridgely, Maryland 21660 to vote to go into a closed session meeting.
The purpose of the closed session is for the Commissioners to:
1) Discuss the appointment, employment, assignment, promotion, discipline, demotion, compensation, removal, resignation, or performance evaluation of an appointee, employee, or official over whom this public body has jurisdiction; or any other personnel matter that affects one or more specific individuals pursuant to Md. Code Ann., Gen. Prov. § 3-305(b)(1)
The public is invited to attend via conference call the open session portion of the Commissioners’ meeting and to observe the Commissioners’ vote to close the same and to convene in closed session.

The public will be allowed to listen to the meeting, but will be muted to eliminate background noise. Under the Maryland Open Meetings Law, the public does not have the right to speak, but only to observe the meetings.
The Commissioners will take roll call and announce which staff are participating directly in the meeting. All speakers, including Commissioners, must announce their last name before they speak.
We understand during this time of COVID-19, more and more people are choosing home delivery services over standard in-person shopping. This undoubtedly has produced much more cardboard in the community. We would like to remind residents that cardboard is recyclable and should not be put out with your regular weekly household trash. Notice is hereby given of a Town Election to be held for the election of one (1) Commissioner to serve for a term of three (3) years on:
MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2020
Between the hours of 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Place of Election:
The Ridgely House/Town Hall
2 Central Avenue
Only qualified registered voters will be entitled to vote. All persons desiring to become a candidate for Commissioner of Ridgely shall file with the Clerk-Treasurer of Ridgely a written certificate of such candidacy by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 1, 2020. Such candidate must be a resident of the Town of Ridgely, Maryland for more than one (1) year immediately preceding the fourth Monday of April, 2020, and attained the age of twenty-five (25) years, and must be qualified to vote in accordance with the Town Charter.
Pursuant to Section 6(A) of the Town Charter, if only one (1) qualified candidate files a certificate of candidacy as of the deadline set forth herein, then the election will be canceled, and that candidate shall assume the office of Commissioner upon taking the oath of office on May 4, 2020.
Pursuant to Section 6(B) of the Town Charter, if no qualified candidate files a certificate of candidacy as of the deadline set forth herein, then the election will be canceled, and the Commissioner whose term is expiring will automatically retain his office for another term. If that Commissioner shall refuse to serve for another term, then the office shall be deemed vacant and the remaining Commissioners shall fill the vacancy in accordance with the provisions of the Town Charter.
